If I leave the printer tape on the ink cartridge will it affect the printing when I go to print?
cul8r07 asked: If it will… how do I take it off and will ink get on me when handle the cartridge? Also… how do I put it back in? Do I need to unplug anything when taking the ink out? Help!

read the instructions that came with your printer.
TAPE must come off ink cartridge before installing, and you do not touch anything but side of cartridge as you put inplace, no you donot need to unplug, most printer have a set of steps to follow for replaceing ink, IE: see instructions.

If you leave the tape on the vent holes, the ink will not come out. Take the tape off. You can remove and reinsert the cartridge with minimal ink loss.

It won’t print with the tape still on. Remove tape, be careful you don’t touch the part beneath the tape. Just turn the printer off. Re-insert the cartridge. There should be no ink on the cartridge, but be careful.

If the tape says please remove, remove. Any other tape leave.
Some cartridge have a tape on them (like epson) that is not meant to be removed, this tape is stretchy and seals the ink port to the print head.
If you are removing a tape that does say please remove, do not put it back on. You want to leave the ink in the printer until the ink is done.removing the cartridge will cause errors and problems. The ink is meant to stay in the printer.
When you do go to change the cartridge, after the ink has empties you do not need to turn of the printer, in fact you cannot change the ink while the printer is off as the carriage moves to allow you access to the cartridges.
Remember that printers need to be used, if you have a printer that you are only using every couple months, remember to run a page off or a print head cleaning about every two - three weeks to ensure the printer remains printing.
Finally, Please read you manual, not all printers are the same and the cartridge installation instructions are going to be very different for an Epson or and HP, as is the required maintenance. To get the best print and the longest life out of your printer you need to know how to care for it.
